Tattoo and Piercing After Care Instructions

Tattoo Care Instructions: Your new tattoo will be somewhat tender and will feel like a new sunburn. The care of your tattoo is your responsibility. How you care for it in the first few days determines the way it will look forever.
  1. Remove bandage after 1 hour.Jake's uses only Tattoo Goo Ointment
  2. Wash well with Tattoo Goo deep cleansing soap and warm water.
  3. Pat Dry (DON'T RUB!)
  4. Apply a thin coat of Tattoo Goo ointment and work into the skin.
  5. Apply Goo 6 times a day for 3 or 4 days.
  6. After the 4th day apply Tattoo Goo lotion a few times a day.
  7. Blot excess lotion or ointment with a clean paper towel.
  8. Avoid swimming in chlorinated water for at least 1 week.
  9. Avoid direct sunlight or tanning beds for about two weeks. Apply Tattoo Color Guard or sun screen 30 or higher when outdoors.
  10. Apply Tattoo Goo Lotion if tattoo becomes dry.
  11. Tattoo should not be greasy -- LESS IS MORE!
Healing tattoos will peel and flake; small bits of colored skin will shed. It may not look "crisp" as the first few days and may appear "hazy." This is normal and will clear up in 2-3 weeks.Tattoo Goo Ointment

CLEANING SOLUTIONSTattoo Goo Ointment and Dr. Piercings Aftercare® medication filled swabs
  • Dr. Piercings Aftercare® medication filled swabs (antiseptic and anesthetic for the care and cleaning of piercings).
  • Tattoo Goo® (expressions)
  • Tattoo Goo® (cleansing soap)

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
  1. Wash your hands thoroughly prior to cleaning, touching on or near your piercing for any reason.
  2. Clean 2 to 3 times daily with a product from above.
  3. Soap no more than once or twice a day. While showering lather up a pearl size drop of the soap to clean the piercing and jewelry. Leave the cleanser on the piercing no more than 30 seconds, then rinse thoroughly to remove all traces of the soap from the piercing.
  4. Dry with disposable paper products such as gauze or tissue, because cloth towels can harbor bacteria and catch on new piercing and cause injury. Pat gently to avoid trauma.
What is Normal…
  • Initially: some bleeding, localized swelling, tenderness, or bruising.
  • During healing, some discoloration, itching, secretion of a whitish-yellow fluid (not pus) that will form some crust on the jewelry. The tissue may tighten around the jewelry as it heals.
  • Once healed; the jewelry may not move freely in the piercing; DO NOT FORCE IT. If you fail to induce cleaning your piercing as a part of your daily hygiene routine, normal but smelly bodily secretions may accumulate.
  • A piercing may seem healed before healing is complete. This is because piercings heal from the outside in, and although it feels healed the tissue remains fragile on the inside. BE PATIENT, and keep cleaning throughout the entire healing period.
  • Even healed piercings can shrink or close in minutes after having been there for years! This varies from person to person; if you like your piercing, leave the jewelry in place.
What to do…
  • Wash your hands prior to touching the piercing; leave it alone except when cleaning it. It is not necessary to rotate the jewelry while healing except possibly during cleaning.
  • Make sure your bedding is kept clean and changed regularly. Wear clean, comfortable breathable clothing that protects your piercing while sleeping.Dr. Piercings Aftercare® medication filled swabs
